Walking into F1 Bar & Grill at 517 University Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76107, United States feels like stepping into a neighborhood hangout that somehow figured out how to stay cool without trying too hard. I first stopped by after a long Friday shift at a marketing agency across town, mostly because a coworker kept raving about their best burgers in Fort Worth and I was curious if the hype was real. It was. The dining room buzzed with families, college students from nearby TCU, and a couple of locals who clearly knew every server by name.

The menu leans hard into comfort food, but with a smart twist. Think smash burgers, loaded fries, wings with house-made sauces, and a surprisingly solid grilled chicken plate for people pretending to be healthy. According to the National Restaurant Association, nearly 60 percent of diners in Texas now look for scratch-made items when choosing where to eat, and this place clearly listened. I once watched the kitchen crew prep their onion rings from fresh-cut onions, dipping each ring into batter by hand. It takes longer, but the crunch is unreal.

One of my favorite real-life tests of a diner is consistency. I ordered the same double cheeseburger three visits in a row-kind of like a case study on quality control. Same juicy patty, same toasted bun, same generous layer of melted cheese every time. Food scientist Harold McGee often points out that repeatability is one of the hardest skills in cooking, and F1 somehow nails it even during busy hours.

Their bar program deserves some respect too. A bartender named Marcus walked me through their rotating craft beer list one night, explaining why a local Fort Worth IPA paired better with spicy wings than the light lager I was about to order. The Brewers Association reports that Texas ranks among the top five states for craft breweries, and this diner takes full advantage of that local scene.

If you’re the type who reads reviews before picking a spot, you’ll notice most comments mention friendly service and fast ticket times. I timed my last lunch visit out of curiosity-burger to table in under ten minutes during a weekday rush. That lines up with research from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration showing that diners rate speed almost as high as food quality when deciding if they’ll return.

There are a few things worth knowing. Parking can be tight on busy game nights, and the music gets loud after 9 p.m., which is awesome for groups but not ideal if you’re trying to have a serious conversation. Also, while the locations page on their site lists only the University Drive address right now, staff have mentioned expansion plans, though nothing is officially confirmed yet.

What keeps me coming back isn’t just the food. It’s the way they treat regulars. On my birthday, they surprised me with a plate that literally said happy birthday from the crew in chocolate drizzle, even though I hadn’t mentioned it was my birthday. That level of attention isn’t something you can fake, and it’s probably why their customer retention feels so strong.

From the scratch-made sides to the thoughtful beer pairings and steady stream of glowing reviews, this Fort Worth diner manages to balance laid-back vibes with real culinary discipline. It’s not perfect, but it’s honest, consistent, and clearly run by people who care about what lands on your table.

  • We tried this place out last night and it was absolutely amazing! I had the birria tacos. They were so flavorful and delicious. I also had one of the margaritas, which was also so good and strong. My other party member had the smash burger with fries, which I also tried and was insane! The only thing we didn’t enjoy was the chips with the chips and queso. They were just hard and felt stale but the queso was great! We will definitely be back! Ryan was our server and he was great! Very attentive and kind. Food came out fast and drinks stayed topped off, all done with a friendly, warm smile! Atmosphere was beautiful and classy but still comfortable and casual! Someone who I believe was the manager came and talked to us as well to make sure we had a good experience, which was lovely! She was also very friendly! Highly recommend this place!

  • F1 Smokehouse exceeded my expectations! The nachos had the perfect ratio of toppings to chips, ensuring every bite was loaded with flavor. The Blue Plate was absolutely delicious. The Green Haze cocktail had just the right hint of spice, balancing heat and refreshment beautifully. To top it all off, the banana pudding was the perfect sweet ending to an already amazing meal. Honestly, everything we ordered was spot on. I’ll definitely be back!

  • Stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed. We ordered too much food but left with take out boxes. The smoked wings were really good, we had both buffalo and bbq flavors and really enjoyed those. Fried pickles were great! The Mac and cheese was delicious, I really enjoyed the cucumber salad and the smash burger was so good, although a bit heavy for me, husband loved it. My son also really enjoyed the coconut lemonade drink! The restaurant is bright and modern, and the service was very attentive and friendly, although the food did take longer than I expected to come out. Overall a great spot for lunch or dinner!

  • The meal was absolutely delicious. We started with deviled eggs. They were delicious. Presentation was very nice. We had the Honey Truffle Fried Chicken with Mac & Cheese. It is a must! We had the brisket and potato salad too. Brisket was so tender, lean and cut with a fork. We ended with the banana cream pudding. Make sure to save room. It's scrumptious. Definitely will be going back. Ryan our server was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Manager was hands-on. She made sure we were completely satisfied.

  • I live in Dallas, and I’m crying that this wonderful eatery is in Fort Worth. It’s perfect and the food is beyond amazing. My life was changed by the steak wedge salad.

  • Service (Dory)was great, food was just okay. Dessert, not so much. The drink (Staycation) was really good. Patio was really nice, probably will not add to our rotation.

  • Smoked guacamole, and the shrimp cocktail, were very yummy, and the mushroom Salisbury steak was fantastic. Appetizers and some cocktails were discounted at happy hour.
